By that I mean the taking of ideas, materials, and technology from various diverse fields and putting it all together.<\/p>\n<p>Think of the smartphone, the phone itself is now an afterthought, the device is actually a powerful computer, camera, calendar, diary, clock, calculator, fitness log, newspaper,\u00a0 camera\u2026 and that\u2019s just from looking at my home screen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-393 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/velologic.com\/publishing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/dubike-2-small-300x172.jpg\" alt=\"Bike of the Future? \" width=\"300\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/velologic.com\/publishing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/dubike-2-small-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/velologic.com\/publishing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/dubike-2-small.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-391\" src=\"http:\/\/velologic.com\/publishing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/dubike-1-300x172.jpg\" alt=\"Futuristic Bicycle \" width=\"300\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/velologic.com\/publishing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/dubike-1-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/velologic.com\/publishing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/dubike-1-1024x589.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/velologic.com\/publishing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/dubike-1-600x345.jpg 600w, https:\/\/velologic.com\/publishing\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/dubike-1.jpg 1650w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>So where will the humble bicycle be in a few years? Up until recently it\u2019s been a purely mechanical machine. Now we\u2019re seeing the integration of electronics with things like Shimano\u2019s electronic shifters, and wireless technology with SRAM testing wireless shifters.\u00a0 Of course there\u2019s our smartphones that has become our cycling computers\u2026 then there\u2019s the emerging wearable technology.<\/p>\n<p>What will the bike of the future look like? It might look something like the DuBike from Baidu (the Google of China)<\/p>\n<p>A few of the features built in to the bike include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fitness guidance based on your on-bike performance, speed, cadence, heart rate, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Built in GPS beacon so you always know where your bike is.<\/li>\n<li>Built in navigation \u2013 left and right arrows tell you when to turn. It also optimizes your route.<\/li>\n<li>Social Networking \u2013 connects you with other cyclists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another stage of progress is automation. Perhaps it won\u2019t be too long before we have a smart bike with cruise mode, where it shifts automatically based on data it has collected about you and your historical performance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dubike.baidu.com\/web-en.html\" target=\"_blank\">Learn more about the DuBike<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A lot of progress comes from integration.
